EHS Beats Teutopolis In DH, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham High School beat Teutopolis in a softball doubleheader Tuesday.
The Hearts won the opener 10-1. EHS stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead. T-town pulled within 2-1 in the top of the third but the Hearts broke the game wide open with an eight-run bottom of the frame.
Skylar Schafer had three singles for the Hearts while Jenna Wright had three singles and drove in three runs. Emma Budde added two singles.
Aly Armstrong threw a four-hitter with no walks and 11 strikeouts.
T-town was led by Karsyn Mette with a triple.
In the second contest, Effingham was a 6-4 winner. EHS took a 1-0 opening inning lead. T-town came back with four runs in the top of the third but the Hearts tallied two in the bottom of the frame to trail 4-3. EHS then took a 5-4 lead in the fourth and tacked on a final run in the fifth.
Alissa Kersey had a single and double for the Hearts while Carsyn Fearday had two singles and an RBI and Lauryn Douthit with two singles.
The Wooden Shoes were led by Raegan Drees with two singles, Marianna Hemmen with two singles and Lauren Hemmen with two singles and an RBI.
Armstrong again was the winning pitcher on a 10-hitter with two walks and five strikeouts.

Altamont blanked Dieterich 10-0 in a National Trail Conference contest Tuesday.
The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the third inning and never looked back. Winters threw a three-hitter.
Duckwitz had two doubles and drove in three runs while Biggs had a single, triple and an RBI. The Indians are now 5-2 in the conference 11-14 overall.
Dieterich was led by Bannick with two singles.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged Cumberland 2-1 Tuesday.
WSS took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Pirates tied in the top of the fourth. The Hatchets then came back with a run in the bottom of the fifth for the win.
Both teams had three hits. The Hatchets were led by Roney with a double and an RBI.
Cumberland was led by Hendrix with a double and an RBI.

The Eagles held a 1-0 lead after three innings but Edwards County tied in the fourth. Newton then had a four-run sixth and a three-run seventh.
Frohning tallied a single, double, triple and drove in four runs for the winners.
