Hearts Split Apollo DH, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham and Taylorville split an Apollo Conference softball doubleheaderThursday.
The Tornadoes scored a run in the first inning of the first game and that's all the scoring there was in the 1-0 victory.
The Hearts had five hits in the contest led by Krouse with a single and double. Armstrong was the tough-luck losing pitcher, allowing six hits, one walk and striking out 13.
In the second contest, Effingham came back strong with an 8-1 win. This time it was the Hearts who struck first with five runs in the opening inning.
Wright had two doubles and an RBI while Douthit had a single, double and an RBI, Fearday two singles and an RBI and Krouse a double and three RBI.
Armstrong picked up the pitching win this time around, throwing a five-hitter with no walks and 10 strikeouts.
The Hearts are now 1-7 in the conference, 6-8 overall.

At St. Anthony
Effingham St. Anthony banged out 14 hits and was aided by five Altamont errors in taking an 11-1 National Trail Conference victory Thursday.
The Bulldogs tallied four in the second, single runs in the third and fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Woltman, Coffin and Gibson led the way in hitting. Woltman and Coffin had three singles and an RBI each while Gibson tallied two singles, a double and an RBI. Seachrist added two singles and two RBI.
Duckwitz had three singles, Winters two singles and Mette a single, home run and an RBI for Altamont. The Indians drop to 4-2 in the Nationall Trial Conference, 8-13 overall.

Highland took a 3-1 first inning lead and went on to beat Teutopolis 5-1 Thursday.
Highland outhit the Wooden Shoes 9-3. T-town's three hits were singles by R. Drees, M. Hemmen and Brumleve.
The Shoes drop to 6-9 on the season.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg pounded out 17 hits and scored 22 runs in a 22-7 National Trail Conference win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Thursday.
The Hatchets finish the regular NTC season as the champions with a 7-0 record and are 19-4 overall.
WSS took a 10-0 first inning lead and end the game in the fifth. Everett had two doubles and an RBI while Tabbert added a home run and three RBI, Rentfro a triple and two RBI, Bennett two singles, a double and two RBI, Reynolds a double and M. Schlechte a double and two RBI.
CHBC was led by Dye with a single, double and an RBI. CHBC finishes at 1-7 in the conference and drops to 3-10 overall.

Neoga trailed Sullivan 2-0 after the first inning and 7-0 after five. The Indians attempted a comeback with a three-run sixth and a three-run seventh only to fall 7-6.
Gentry had a single, two doubles and two RBI for Neoga while Lee added two singles and two RBI and Saunders two singles. Titus had a triple and Atwell a double. The Indians fell to 5-11 on the season.
