EHS Blanks Nokomis, Newton Wins Own Tourney, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham High School ran off 12 straight runs in the first inning and went on to blank Nokomis 15-0 in four innings of softball action Friday.
The Hearts had 13 hits led by Fearday with two doubles and three RBI, Douthit with a single, home run and two RBI, Kersey with three singles and an RBI, Budde with two singles and an RBI, Schafer with a double and two RBI and Armstrong with a double and an RBI.
Armstrong picked up the pitching win, going three innings, allowing three hits, no walks and striking out three. Boone threw the final inning, allowing no hits.

Newton Round Robin Tournament
Newton captured its own round robin tournament Friday. The Eagles finished with a 3-0 record followed by Altamont 1-2, Effingham St. Anthony 1-2 and Olney 1-2.
Newton defeated Olney 7-2 while Altamont won over St. Anthony 7-2. In the second round, Newton defeated St. Anthony 4-1 and Olney beat Altamont 8-5. In the third round, Newton took a 6-4 win over Altamont while St. Anthony blanked Olney 6-0.

At St. Elmo
St. Elmo/Brownstown played host to South Central and edged the Cougars 7-6 in Friday action.
SEB stepped out to a 3-1 opening inning lead but South Central tied the score in the second, 5-5 and took a 6-5 lead in the third. SEB came back in the bottom of the seventh to score two runs for the victory.
South Central dropped to 2-5 in the National Trail Conference, 3-10 overall.

Altamont dropped two losses at the Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Tournament Saturday.
The Indians fell to the host squad 10-0 in six innings. Windsor/Stew-Stras had 11 hits in the contest and Schlechte pitched a three-hitter.
Schlechte had a single, triple and an RBI while Tabbert had a single, double and an RBI, Roney a double and two RBI, Rentfrow a double and an RBI and Everett two singles.
Altamont was led by Goeckner and Shyrock with a double each.
Altamont then lost to Hillsboro 17-3 in five innings. Hillsboro had 17 hits while Altamont had four hits and five errors.
Altamont was led by Duckwitz and Winters with a double and an RBI each and Goeckner with a double.
Altamont drops to 7-11 on the season.
