Effingham  St. Anthony stepped out to a 5-2 opening inning lead and went on to beat Brownstown/St. Elmo 10-2 in National Trail Conference softball action Monday.

The Bulldogs had six hits in the game led by A. Day with a single, two doubles and two RBI. A. Day also picked up the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing two hits, two runs, one walk and striking out five.

At St. Anthony

At Teutopolis

The Wooden Shoes leaped out to a 9-0 first inning lead and pounded Vandalia 17-1 in five innings.

T-town had a whopping total of 19 hits in the game led by J. Drees, Beckman and Bueker with three singles and two RBI each, S. Brumleve with a single, double and three RBI, R. Drees with two singles, M. Hemmen with a double and an RBI and L. Hemmen with two singles and an RBI.

T-town improves to 4-7 on the season.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had a three-run third in taking a 3-1 victory over Altamont Monday.

The Indians also scored their lone run in the third.

WSS had four hits led by Tabbert with a double and an RBI.

Altamontn was led by Duckwitz with a double and an RBI. The Indians drop to 3-1 in the National Trail Conference, 6-6 overall.

At Farina

Neoga tallied a 15-5 National Trail Conference win over South Central Monday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the first inning. Neoga led 3-2 after two. The score was tied at 5-5 in the top of the fifth but Neoga pushed across eight runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to end the game via the 10-run rule in the sixth.

Neoga had 10 hits led by Titus with a single, double and three RBI, Je. Atwell with a single, double and an RBI, Lee with a single, double and two RBI, Gentry with two singles and an RBI, Estay with a single, triple and an RBI, Dryden with two singles and an RBI and Vondrak with a double and an RBI.

The Cougars were led by Serina Lee with a single, double and an RBI, Sidney Wilkins with a single, double and two RBI and Angelica River with a single and double. The Cougars drop to 1-4 in the NTC, 2-8 overall.

Newton took the early lead then held off a challenge at Red Hill (Bridgeport) to win 8-5.

The Eagles tallied one in the first, two in the second, four in the third and one in the fifth for an 8-5 lead. Red Hill came back with a four-run bottom of the seventh only to fall short.

Hardiek had a double, home run and two RBI for the Eagles while Cohorst had a solo homer, Frohning a double and T. Smith a double and an RBI.

Newton is now 7-6 on the season and 3-1 in the Little Illini Conference.

Liberty Dunaway threw a two-hitter with two walks and eight strikeouts as Cumberland downed Hutsonville/Palestine in the Little Okaw Valley Conference Monday, 11-0.

The Pirates had 17 hits in the contest led by Oakley with a single, two doubles and an RBI, Guyon with a a single, double and an RBI, Sowers with three singles, Hendrix with two singles, a double and four RBI, S. Oakley with a single, two doubles and an RBI, Bradley with a single, double and three RBI and Green with a single and double.

The Pirates improve to 8-7 on the season.
