Bulldogs 1-1 in Own Tourney, EHS Drops Two, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony picked up a victory and suffered a loss in its own round robin softball tournament Saturday.

The Bulldogs fell to Paris in the opener 3-0. The two teams went scoreless through the first five innings before the Tigers broke loose with three in the sixth.

The Bulldogs outhit Paris 6-3 but committed two errors. A. Day had two singles to lead St. Anthony.

In the second contest, St. Anthony pounded Okaw Valley 13-2. The score was tied at 1-1 until the fourth when the Bulldogs tallied seven runs. St. Anthony added on a single run in the fifth and four more in the seventh.

Woltman led the Bulldogs with two singles, two doubles and three RBI while Kinkelaar added a single, double and two RBI, Gibson two singles and an RBI and Kabbes a double and an RBI.

Coffin was the winning pticher on a nine-hitter with two walks and three strikeouts.

In a Friday contest, St. Anthony claimed a 4-2 win over Neoga. The Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Neoga scored in the top of the fourth but St. Anthony answered back with a run in the sixth.

Woltman banged out a single and a double. L. Day had a single and drove in two runs. Nine players had a hit in the contest.

Neoga was led by Saunders with a single, triple and an RBI, Lee with two singles and an RBI, Titus and Gentry with two singles each.

At Effingham

Effingham suffered two Apollo Conference losses to Charleston in Saturday action.

Charleston won the opener 6-3. The score was tied until the seventh when the Trojans scored three for the victory.

EHS was led in hitting by Funneman with a single, triple and two RBI, Schafer with a single and double and Kersey with two singles and an RBI.

In the second contest, Charleston blanked the Hearts 7-0.

Both teams had five hits but the Hearts finished with four errors. Wright led EHS in hitting with two singles.

At Flora

Flora edged Teutopolis 6-5 in action Friday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 2-0 first inning lead and held a 4-3 lead after five. Flora tallied two in the sixth to move ahead 5-4 T-town tied in the top of the seventh but the Wolves tallied the winning run on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the frame.

Both teams had 10 hits. T-town was led by Brumleve with two singles, a double and three RBI , Hemmen with three singles and Drees with a triple.

T-town is now 2-6 on the season.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg took a 2-1 first inning lead and went on for a 9-1 win over Sullivan Saturday.

Megan Schlechte was the winning pitcher on a six-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts.

Schlechte also had two singles and drove in two runs.
