Bulldogs, Indians Nab Softball Victories

Effingham St. Anthony High School took a 2-0 first inning lead and went on to beat Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 20-1 in five innings of softball action Tuesday.

The Bulldogs had an 11-run fourth inning. St. Anthony banged out 15 hits in the game led by A. Day with two singles and one RBI, Kabbes with two singles, a double and four RBI, Woltman with two singles, a double and two RBI, Kinkelaar with a double, home run and three RBI and L. Day with a home run and four RBI.

A. Day picked up the victory, allowing three hits, no walks and striking out five.

At Effingham

Effingham picked up a 5-3 victory over Cumberland Tuesday.

The Hearts took a 2-0 first inning lead then added on a single run in the second. Cumberland came back to tie the score in the top of the fourth but the Hearts regained the lead in the bottom of the frame and finished out with a run in the sixth.

Armstrong was the winning pitcher on a six-hitter with four walks and six strikeouts.

Douthit led the way for the Hearts with three singles and an RBI.

At Altamont

Altamont stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and never looked back with a 15-1 win in five innings over South Central Tuesday.

The Indians had a 10-run second. Winters picked up the pitching win on a five-hitter with one walk and two strikeouts.

Altamont was led by Winters with a single, double and five RBI and Biggs with a double and an RBI.

Altamont is now 1-0 in the National Trail Conference, 2-5 overall.

At St. Elmo

 St. Elmo/Brownstown took the early lead but Vandalia came back with a four-run eighth to pull out a 13-12 win.

SEB led 2-1 after two innings and 5-3 after three. Vandalia moved ahead with a five-run fifth but SEB tied in the sixth. The two teams scored a run each in the seventh. Vandalia moved ahead 13-9 in the top of the eighth.  SEB came back with three runs only to fall short.

SEB had 14 hits in the contest led by Maxey with two singles, a double and an RBI, Oberlink with a double, home run and three RBI, Brown with two doubles and Nolen with two singles and two RBI.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg downed Okaw Valley 4-2. The Hatchets took a 2-0 first inning lead and never let go of the lead the rest of the way.

Tabbert had a single and double while Roney had a triple and an RBI and Bennett a double.

Charlesotn came calling and handed Teutopolis a 12-0 loss in six innings.

The Trojans took a 3-0 second inning lead then tacked on single runs in the third and fifth and finished with seven in the sixth.

Drees led the Wodoen Shoes with a single and double.
