VANDALIA -- Using multiple extra base hits, Effingham High School pounded Vandalia 26-1 in five innings of softball action Tuesday.
The Hearts ran off to a 13-0 first inning lead and had 26 hits in the contest. Wright pounded out five hits including three singles, a double, home run and four RBI as did Armstrong who had two singles, three doubles and four RBI. Fearday had a single, two doubles, a home run and three RBI. Douthit had three singles and three RBI while Kersey had three singles and two RBI. Douthit cihpped in with three singles and three RBI and Kersey three singles and two RBI. Schafer added a single, double and four RBI, Krouse a single, double and two RBI and Lake a double and two RBI.
Armstrong threw a one-hitter with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Effingham St. Anthony hosted Olney and fell to the Tigers 13-3 in six innings.
The score was tied at 1-1 after two innings but Olney broke loose with a nine-run third.

Altamont opened its season with a 13-12 win over Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Tuesday.
The Indians ripped out to an 11-0 first inning lead then had to hold off CORL who tallied four in the seventh.
Altamont had 10 hits in the contest. Burns had three singles and an RBI while Grimsley added two singles. Duckwitz and Goeckner had two RBI each.

South Central handed Webber Township (Bluford) a 12-9 loss. The Cougars edged out to a 3-0 first inning lead then had a five-run second, a three-run fourth and tacked on a final run in the seventh.
Zoe Johnston had a single, triple and three RBI while Serina Lee had a double, two triples and two RBI. Sidney Wilkins added two singles and two RBI and Katie Shumate a double and an RBI.
South Central is now 1-1 on the season.

Teutopolis pounded Ramsey, ending the game in the fourth via the 10-run rule, 16-0.
T-town had eight hits led by Brumleve with a single, double and three RBI, Hemmen two singles, Hemmen and Niebrugge a double and two RBI each and R. Drees with a double.
Niebrugge and Newkirk pitched two innings each. Niebrugge picked up the win on a one-hitter with no walks and two strikeouts. Newkirk pitched a no-hitter over two with no walks and three strikeouts.
The Wooden Shoes are now 2-0 on the season.

Neoga pounded out 19 hits and brought home 23 runs in downing Dieterich 23-2 in five innings Tuesday.

Dieterich had two hits, a triple by Robards and a double by Bloemer.

Mattoon handed Newton a 12-8 loss Tuesday.
The Green Wave edged out to a 2-1 first inning lead then pushed that to 4-1 in the third. Newton came back with a four-run fourth to lead 5-4 but the Green Wave tallied two to push ahead 6-5. The Eagles then had a three-run top of the fifth to lead 8-6. But here came Mattoon again with a three run fifth to lead 9-8 and then tallied three more in the sixth.
The Green Wave had 16 hits in the contest while Newton had 10. The Eagles were led by Cohorst with a single, double and two RBI and Smith with a single, double and two RBI.
