Bulldogs Drop Loss to Flora, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony went up against a tough Flora squad and fell 8-1 in softball competition Monday.

Flora's Krutsinger no-hit the Bulldogs. She had five walks and 15 strikeouts. The Wolves had 13 hits in the contest led by Cammon with a single, home run and four RBI, Himelick three singles and an RBI, Krustinger a double and an RBI, Pearce three singles and Cartright two singles and two RBI.

At Dieterich

St. Elmo/Brownstown blasted out 18 hits and scored 16 runs in a 16-5 win over Dieterich Monday.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 after the second inning. SEB took a 4-1 lead in the third. Dieterich pulled within 4-2 in the fourth but the Eagles had five-run innings in the fifth and seventh sandwiched around two runs in the sixth.

Oberlink had two singles, a double, triple and three RBI for the winners. Parkison had three singles and an RBI. Moss had a single, double and three RBI. Gathe had a single, double and an RBI, Smith two singles and an RBI while Russell had two singles.

Dieterich had four hits, all singles by Bierman, Niemerg, Vahling and Johnson. Klay had two RBI and Niemerg one RBI.

Oberlink picked up the pitching win on a four-hitter with seven walks and 15 strikeouts.

Teutopolis stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead but Salem tied in the top of the third. The Wooden Shoes regained the lead in the bottom of the third and took over with five runs in the fourth and ended the game with three runs in the fifth, 12-2.

The Shoes banged out 15 hits in the contest led by R. Drees with two singles, a triple and an RBI, J. Drees with three singles and three RBI, Brumleve with a single, double and three RBI, Bueker with two singles and a double, Niebrugge with a single, double and two RBI and Hemmen with two singles and two RBI.

Beckman was the winning pitcher on a three-hitter with no walks and five strikeouts.

T-town also claimed the junior varsity game 14-0 in four innings.

Mulberry Grove came calling and handed South Central a 17-7 loss in six innings Monday.

Mulberry Grove had 12 hits and stepped out to an 8-0 first inning lead and never looked back.

South Central was led by Zoe Johnston with three singles and an RBI, Alannah Sigrist with two singles and an RBI and Katie Shumate with a double and an RBI.

Newton took a 3-0 first inning lead but Neoga came back with a four-run second. However, that lead only lasted until the fifth when the Eagles tallied three more for a 6-4 victory.

Neoga outhit Newton 14-12. Jessica Atwell had a single, two doubles and an RBI while Elizabeth Titus had three singles and Andrea Estay a single and double.

The winners were led by Kristen Hardiek with three doubles and an RBI, Ariel Richards with three singles, Taylor Smith with a single, double and an RBI and Abby Frohning with a home run and two RBI.

At Newton

Robinson tallied one run in the fourth inning and that was all it took in a 1-0 win over Cumberland Monday.

Robinson had five hits while Kirbie Mendehall pitched a two-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Pirates were led by Liberty Dunaway with a double. Cumberland drops to 1-2 on the season.
