South Central Will Play For Third Place at State

PINCKNEYVILLE -- South Central saw its hopes for a state title dashed by Smithton in the Class M SIJHSAA State Softball Tournament Tuesday.
Smithton took a 2-0 first inning lead and held that until the fourth then brought home seven runs and two more in the fifth. South Central then tallied its two runs in the fifth and fell 11-2.
South Central had five hits in the contest led by Sydnee Garrett with a single, two doubles and an RBI.
Coach Kapper's squad drops to 16-4 and will now face Hardin County at 1 p.m. Thursday for third place. Trico defeated Hardin County 7-2 and advanced to the state title contest against Smithton at 3 p.m. Thursday.
