South Central Advances in Class M State Tourney

PINCKNEYVILLE -- South Central High School advanced in the Class M SIJHSAA State Softball Tournament Monday.

Nashville took a 3-0 first inning lead but South Central tallied two in the second and two in the fourth to pull ahead 4-3. Nashville then scored four in the fifth to lead 7-4. South Central tied the score at 7-7 in the sixth and won it in the top of the seventh, 8-7.

The winning run scored with two outs. Laney Webster was caught in a rundown between second and third. The ball was thrown away and the centerfielder overthrew the catcher allowing Webster to score the game-ending winning run.

Sydney Garrett had a double and drove in two runs for the winners. Webster had two singles.

South Central improves to 16-3 and will play in the semifinals today at 3 p.m. against Smithton, a 16-0 winner over Shiloh. In other games Monday, Trico beat Anna 11-1 and Hardin County downed Johnston City 9-2. Trico will face Hardin County at 1 p.m. today. The winners of today's contests will play for the state title Thursday at 3 p.m. The losers will square off for third place at 1 p.m.
