Effingham Junior High Team Headed to State!

PARIS -- The Effingham Mustangs are headed to the junior high softball state tournament!

Effingham advanced by winning the Class AA Paris Sectional 13-5 over Mattoon Monday afternoon.

Megan Tylka's crew will play Channahon at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Champion Fields in Normal.

Effingham put the game away early, scoring five times in the first inning before adding four runs in the third inning on the way to the win.

Dasenbrock had a single, triple and drove in a run for the Mustangs. Wittenberg had three singles and an RBI while Rothrock added two singles and an RBI. Hardiek had a single and two RBI.

The team was to be escorted by a fire truck from the Moto Mart on North Route 45 Monday evening.

At Salem

South Central fell to host Salem 6-4 in a regular season contest Monday.

Salem stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead and led 5-0 after two. South Central came back within a run with two in the third and two in the fourth but Salem tacked on an insurance run in the fifth.

Kayli Swift led South Central with two singles, a double and two RBI while Sierra Arnold had two singles and Sydnee Garrett a double. South Central drops to 13-3 and will be back in action today at the Wayne City Regional against host Wayne City.
