Newton was steady, scoring in every inning, to edge Effingham St. Anthony 12-11 in junior high softball action Thursday.

Newton took a 1-0 first inning lead and led 3-1 after two. St. Anthony then pounded home nine runs to lead 10-4. But Newton steadily came back with two in the fourth, one in the fifth and five in the sixth to pull out the win.

Blake had two singles, a home run and two RBI for the winners while Zumbahlen and Parr had a single and triple each. Zumbahlen added two RBI. M. Kuhl had two singles and two RBI.

St. Anthony was led by Boatman with a single, double and three RBI and Hakman with two singles and an RBI.

At Salem

Teutopolis edged out to a 1-1 first inning lead then had a five-run fourth for a 9-2 win over Salem Franklin Park.

T-town had 11 hits in the contest led by Bushur with three singles and an RBI, Addis with two singles and an RBI, M. Deters with two singles and an RBI and Niebrugge with two singles.

Bushur was the winning pitcher, going five innings, allowing three hits, no walks and striking out four. D. Deters came on to throw the final two innings, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out one.

At Windsor

Altamont fell to Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 15-1 in five innings.

WSS stepped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and never looked back. Pfeiffer had a double, triple, home run and six RBI for the winners. Bean added a home run and three RBI while N. Hayes had a single and double.

Altamont was led by Goeckner with a single, double and an RBI.

At Windsor

South Central took the early lead and went on to blank Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 15-0 in five innings. South Central finished out with an 11-run fifth.

Meagan Smith and Lily Malone had two singles each for the winners. Laney Webster picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with no walks and six strikeouts.

Gracie Heckert had two singles for CHBC which drops to 7-8 on the season.
