Cowden-Herrick/Beecher city captured first place Altamont Lutheran Softball Tournament. Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Junior High School captured the championship of the Altamont Lutheran Girls Softball Tournament Saturday.
CHBC won followed by Central City in second, Altamont Lutheran/St. Peter third, Altamont fourth and Mulberry Grove fifth.
CHBC captured a 7-1 win over Altamont in the opener. Madison Cherry pitched a one-hitter. Cherry also aided her own cause with two singles and two RBI.
CHBC then downed Altamont Lutheran B 9-5. Altamont Lutheran B held a 2-1 lead until the third when CHBC tallied four and scored four more in the fifth.
Carsen Burks picked up the pitching win. Zaryah Cyr had three singles while Tatyana Duckwitz hit a solo home run and Cherry a two-run shot.
In the championship game, CHBC took a 3-0 first inning lead on Central City then finished out with an 11-8 victory.
CHBC had 12 hits led by Burks with three singles and three RBI, Sydney Dunaway with a double and an RBI, Gracie Heckert with two singles and Abby Sloan with two singles and an RBI.
In the third place contest, Altamont Lutheran handed Altamont an 11-3 loss. Altamont Lutheran had a seven-run fifth after leading 4-2.
McManaway, Brauer and Sigg had a single each for the winners.

At Toledo
Effingham came calling at Cumberland and claimed a 14-5 win. The Mustangs banged out 15 hits in the contest and was aided by five errors.
Davis had four singles and an RBI for the winners while Kronewitter had a single, double and an RBI, Armstrong a single, double and an RBI and Stone a triple and an RBI.
Cumberland was led by Thornton with two singles and Maynard with a double and an RBI.
