ALTAMONT -- Effingham St. Anthony/Sacred Heart Junior High School captured the championship of the Altamont Opening Day Softball Tournament Saturday.
St. Anthony/Sacred Heart finished 2-1 followed by Sullivan 2-1, Jasper County 2-1 and Altamont 0-3.
St. Anthony/Sacred Heart blanked Altamont 11-0 in the opening game by stepping out to a 10-0 first inning lead. Guy had a triple and drove in a run while Kabbes had a single and drove in two runs for SASH. Ritz pitched a no-hitter for SASH.
Sullivan won over Jasper County 7-3. Jasper County then came back to edge St. Anthony/Sacred Heart 4-3. Jasper County edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead. St. Anthony/Sacred Heart came back with two in the top of the third but Jasper County tallied one in the bottom of that frame and two more in the fourth.
Kinder and Parr had a triple each for the winners. St. Anthony was led by Karolewicz with a triple.
Sullivan downed Altamont 15-5 in three innings. Sullivan had a 10-run second. Altamont was led by Mette and Brummer with two singles and an RBI each. Runge had a triple.
St. Anthony/Sacred Heart defeated Sullivan 9-1. St. Anthony took a 3-1 lead in the second and had a six-run fourth. Rios had a single, double and two RBI while Karolewicz had a double and an RBI, Ritz two singles and an RBI and Kabbes two singles.
Jasper County then beat Altamont 8-7. Altamont outhit Jasper County 9-8 as Brummer had a double, triple and two RBI and Boedecker had two singles and an RBI and Berg two singles.

Charleston 14, St. Anthony/Sacred Heart 2
In Friday competition, St. Anthony/Sacred Heart fell to Charleston 14-2. Charleston stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead then tacked on six runs in the second and ended the game via the 10-run rule in the fifth.
St. Anthony/Sacred Heart had five hits led by Boatman with a single and double.

CHBC Tournament
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was the champion of the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Softball Tournament Saturday.
WSS finished with a 3-0 record followed by CHBC 2-1, Mulberry Grove 1-2 and St. Elmo/Brownstown 0-3.
CHBC defeated Mulberry Grove in the opener 15-3. CHBC led 7-2 after three then had an eight-run fourth inning. Madison Cherry threw a one-hitter.
CHBC was led by Gracie Heckert with four triples and Sydney Dunaway with a single, double and three RBI.
Windsor/Stew-Stras pounded St. Elmo/Brownstown 14-0 in the second contest. Mulberry Grove then blanked SEB 13-0.
Windsor/Stew-Stras downed CHBC 4-1. The score was tied at 1-1 until the sixth when Windsor/Stew-Stras tallie three runs for the win.
H. Hayes had a solo home run for the winners while Bean had a triple and an RBI.
CHBC was led by Sydney Dunaway and Carsen Burks with a single and an RBI each.
Windsor/-Stew-Stras then defeated Mulberry Grove 9-1. CHBC finished out with a 15-3 victory over SEB.
CHBC took a 6-1 first inning lead then had a nine-run second. CHBC was led by Madison Cherry with a triple and two RBI and Dunaway with a single and three RBI.
