Altamont Beats Dieterich, South Central Splits in Softball

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School blanked Dieterich in Saturday softball competition, 10-0.

The Indians stepped out to an 8-0 first inning lead, then tacked on single runs in the second and fifth.

Winters pitched a one-hitter with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Goeckner had a single, double and four RBI while Duckwitz had a single, double and an RBI. Winters chipped in with a double and an RBI and Biggs a double.

Altamont is 11-18 on the season and finished the National Trail Conference season with a 5-2 record.

At Olney

South Central competed in the Olney Classic Saturday and split wins. The Cougars fell to host Olney 11-2.

South Central had nine hits in the contest led by Serina Lee with a single and double, Sidney Wilkins two singles and Abby King a double.

In the second contest, South Central beat Lawrenceville 4-2. The Cougars broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the fourth and tacked on a final run in the fifth.

King picked up the pitching win on a six-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts. King also had a single and double. Lee had two singles and Kanady Grzegorek had three singles and an RBI and Katelyn Wilson two singles.

The Cougars are 8-12 heading into regional action Wednesday at Clay City vs. Clay City.

 At Alexis

Teutopolis picked up two victories in the Alexis Tournament Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes beat United 10-2. The Shoes held a 5-2 lead after three inings then tallied one in the fourth and four in the fifth for the victory.

Anni Borries had two singles, a triple and three RBI while Kadi Borries had a single, double, triple and three RBI.

In the second game, T-town edged Sherrard 5-4 scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull out the win.

The Shoes had 10 hits as Danielle Repking had three singles and drove in two runs. A. Borries picked up the pitching win on a seven-hitter with three walks and seven strikeouts.

At Sullivan

Cumberland competed in the Sullivan Tournament and picked up a win and suffered a loss Saturday.

Mount Zion beat Cumberland 12-1. The Braves held a 4-1 lead after three innings then tallied two in the fourth and ended the game via the 10-run rule in the fifth with six runs.

Poe had a double and an RBI for the Pirates while Dunaway had a double.

In the second game, Cumberland claimed a 13-8 victory. The Pirates moved ahead 7-4 after three innings then tallied two in the fourth and four in the sixth.

Both teams had 12 hits and three errors. Oakley had a double and two RBI for the Pirates while Sowers had two singles and three RBI while Thornton two singles and a triple. Poe added a single, double, 2 RBI.

St. Elmo/Brownstown split victories in action Friday.

SEB defeated Neoga 15-5 in five innings via the 10-run rule.  SEB banged out 12 hits in the conltest led by Bone with a single, double and an RBI, Fitch with two singles, two doubles and an RBI, Brown with three singles, a triple and two RBI and Moss with three singles, a double and an RBI.

In the second game, SEB fell to Mulberry Grove 29-11. Mulberry Grove had a whopping 31 hits in the contest.

Hitting for SEB were R. Brown with a double, triple and two RBI and Reynolds with three singles and two RBI.

Flora edged Newton 3-2. The Wolves took a 1-0 lead in the second then tallied two in the fifth. Newton came back with two in the bottom of the fifth but that's all the Eagles could score.

Krusinger picked up a one-hit pitching one with eight walks and 12 strikeouts.

Newton's lone hit was a single by Shipman.
