Cumberland Nabs Win, MTC Softball Tourney Opens

TOLEDO -- Cumberland High School handed Hutsonville/Palestine a 3-0 softball loss in action Monday.
The Pirates held a 2-0 first inning lead and had seven hits. Liberty Dunaway had a double and two RBI while Sadie Oakley had a single and double.
Dunaway also was the winning pitcher, throwing a four-hitter with six strikeouts.

At Clay City
Clay City High School blanked Odin 3-0 in opening round play of the Midland Trail Conference Softball Tournament Monday.
The Wolves edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then tacked on single runs in the third and sixth.
Clay City had nine hits led by Hannah Dulaney with a double, Macy Hance with two singles and two RBI and Alyssa Groves with a single, double and an RBI.
Odin was led by Kameron Kelly with a double.
Second-seeded Woodlawn advanced to the semifinals by trouncing Cisne 18-2. Kalyn Crider allowed one hit for the pitching win. She also had a double. Kiara Lueking hit a grand slam and finished with five RBI and Morghan Petersen had a double and three RBI.
Wayne City beat Grayville 1-0 and will face Woodlawn today, weather permitting.
