WSS, St. A Advance To NTC Tourney Championship

The championship game will feature Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and Effingham St. Anthony Friday for all the marbles in the National Trail Conference Girls Softball Tournament.

Windsor/Stew-Stras bounced South Central 14-2 while St. Anthony downed Altamont 9-1 in action Wednesday. WSS and St. Anthony square off at 6 p.m. Friday for the title while South Central and Altamont meet for third place at 4:15 p.m. In the consolation championship, St. Elmo/Brownstown will square off against Neoga at 4:15 p.m.

 

Windsor/Stew-Stras 14, South Central 2

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, the top seed, pounded South Central 14-2. The Hatchets improve to 22-4 on the season.

St. Anthony 9, Altamont 1

St. Anthony edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead but Altamont knotted the score at 1-1. The Bulldogs moved ahead 2-1 in the third then had a six-run fifth and scored a final run in the sixth.

Maddie Schuette hit a home run and finished with two RBI for the Bulldogs. Hunter Niebrugge had a single, double and two RBI while Katie Kabbes had two singles and two RBI. Jenna Woltman chipped in with a double.

Winters had a double for the Indians while Burns and Mette had two singles each.

Neoga 9, Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 8

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick stepped out to the early lead, bringing home three runs in the first and two in the second for a 5-1 lead. Neoga came back with four in the third but still trailed 8-6 after five. Neoga then scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the win.

Kelli Bell hit a walk-off single that tallied the winning run.

Cheyenne Vondrake, Andrea Estay and Kolby Vaughn had two singles each while Jessica Atwell had a single, double and triple. Estay had two RBI. Roderick didn't get a hit but had three RBI.

BCCH was led by Isabella Doty with a single, double and an RBI.

St. Elmo/Brownstown 9, Dieterich 4

SEB stepped out to a 5-0 first inning lead then had to hold off Dieterich for the win.

The Movin' Maroons mounted a rally in the bottom of the seventh but fell short.

Tessa Philpot picked up the six-hit pitching win, striking out four. Philpot had a single, triple and drove in two runs while Jenna Long had two singles and an RBI.

Dieterich was led by Maddie Bannick with two singles.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis blanked Newton 3-0 in action Wednesday.

The two teams went through three innings before the Wooden Shoes finally tallied a run in the fourth then scored again in the fifth and sixth.

T-town had nine hits led by Anni Borries with a single and double while Sidney Brumleve had two singles and an RBI.

Kadi Borries allowed four hits, no walks and struck out 14. The Shoes are now 23-1 on the season.

Baker led Newton with a double.

Teutopolis tallied a 3-2 win over Newton in junior varsity play in four innings.

Cumberland trounced Martinsville to the tune of 18-0 in five innings.

The Pirates edged out to a 2-0 first inning lead then had an eight-run second, scored a single run in the third and tallied seven in the fourth.

Katie Poe picked up the pitching win on a two-hitter with seven strikeouts.

McMechan had a triple and an RBI while Thorton had a single, two doubles and two RBI, Poe a double and three RBI, Stewart a double and two RBI and Huddlestun a single, double and three RBI.
