Bulldogs Beat SEB, Area Softball Roundup

BROWNSTOWN -- Effingham St. Anthony High School broke a 1-1 first inning tie with a five-run third and went on to beat St. Elmo/Brownstown 12-7 in softball action Monday.

The Bulldogs had 12 hits in the contest led by Katie Kabbes with a single, triple, home run and three RBI, Shea Kinkelaar with a single and double, Marci Mills with a double, Liz Day with a double and two RBI and Alli Day and Sydney Gibson with two singles and two RBI each.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Bone with a single, home run and two RBI and Brown with two singles, a triple and an RBI.

At Altamont

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg had 15 hits and tallied a 13-1 win over Altamont in six innings.

Roney led WSS with two singles and two doubles while Cole had a single and double, Rentfrow had two singles and a double and Tabbert had two singles.

Altamont was led by Burns with three singles. The Indians drop to 2-1 in the National Trail Conference, 4-10 overall.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis edged South Central 4-0 by scoring single runs in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Brumleve and Hemmen had two singles and an RBI each for the winners while Apke added a double.

South Central was led by Wilson and Grzegorek with a single each.

The Wooden Shoes' Anni Borries pitched a two-hitter with two walks and 12 strikeouts. The Shoes are now 17-1 on the season and will host Tuscola today with a junior varsity contest to follow.

The Cougars drop to 4-6 on the season and are back in action hosting Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City today at 4:30.

At Dieterich

Odin held a 3-0 lead through four innings but Dieterich came back with a five-run fifth to lead 5-4. Odin then tallied three runs in the top of the seventh only to see the Movin' Maroons tie the score in the bottom of the frame, sending the game into extra innings.

Finally in the top of the ninth, the Eagles tallied a run to pull out an 8-7 victory.

Odin was led in hitting by Kennedy Laffloon with two singles and a double, Kayla Bray with a single, double and three  RBI, Kameron Kelly with two singles and an RBI and Jalynn Day with a double and an RBI.

Dieterich was led by Allyssa Boerngen with a triple, Hannah Hunzinger with three singles; Maddie Bannick with two singles and two RBI and Kelsey Webb with a triple.

Newton broke a 1-1 tie with a four-run third and tallied a 5-3 win over Red Hill (Bridgeport).

Maddie Stanley picked up the pitching win with seven strikeouts. Taylor Smith had a single and two RBI and Mariah Earnest two singles and two RBI.

Cumberland blanked Martinsville to the tune of 18-0 in five innings.

The Pirates had a six-run second and scored five runs in the third and fourth innings.

Dunaway pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts. Thornton had a double, triple, home run and four RBI. Myers and Huddlestun had a double each and Myers added two  RBI.

Neoga blanked Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 10-0 in five innings.

Neoga took a 2-0 first inning lead then had a six-run third and scored a final two runs in the fifth. Neece pitched the win on a four-hitter with four strikeouts.

Lee had a double and triple for the Indians while Estay had a single, two triples and three RBI and Neece a triple and three RBI.
