Newton tallied three runs in the third inning and held off Effingham St. Anthony in high school softball action Tuesday.
St. Anthony held a 1-0 lead in the top of the third before the Eagles tallied all their runs. The Bulldogs then scored a run in the sixth but fell short.
Both teams had three hits each. St. Anthony was led by Hunter Niebrugge with a solo home run and Laura Gurtner with a double. Abbie Schmidt drove in a run with a single.
Newton was led by Frohning, Shipman and Earnest with a single each. Shipman had an RBI.
Shipman picked up the pitching win on the three hitter with one walk and three strikeouts. She went 5.2 innings while Hardiek came on to pitch 1.1, allowing no hits, one walk and striking out three.

At Greenville
Teutopolis banged out 11 hits and captured a 7-1 win over Greenville Tuesday.
The Wooden Shoes took a 1-0 lead in the second then had single runs in the third and fourth before finishing out with a four-run seventh.
Kadi Borries hit a single, home run and had an RBI. Drees had two singles while Waldhoff had a single, double and two RBI and Hemmen three singles and an RBI.
Anni Borries picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with no walks and five strikeouts.
T-town is now 14-1 on the season. The Wooden Shoes junior varsity team also won 5-2.

South Central took the early 3-0 lead in the first and pounded out 15 hits and scored 20 runs for a 20-4 victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown in five innings.
Abby King had two singles, a home run and three RBI while Serina Lee had two singles, a double and two RBI. Alannah Sigrist had two doubles and two RBI, Katelyn Wilson had a single, triple and two RBI and Sidney Wilkins two singles.
The Cougars are now 2-2 in the National Trail Conference, 4-4 overall.
