Effingham High School's softball squad swept an Apollo Conference doubleheader with Charleston Saturday.
Ally Armstrong proved to be the strong link for the Hearts as she not only pitched both victories, she had hits and drove in a run.
Armstrong came on in relief in the opener as the Hearts picked up the 5-2 win. She came on in the second and allowed four hits, two runs, one walk and struck out 12.
The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and held that until the third when EHS tallied three runs. Skyler Schafer and Abby Weis each drove in a run and Schafer scored on a passed ball.
Weis hit a home run in the sixth and Carsyn Fearday chipped in with a solo shot that pushed the Hearts lead to 5-1. Charleston tallied a run in the sixth.
In the second game, EHS had a 6-4 lead in the second inning then added on another run in the sixth to take a 7-5 victory over the Trojans.
Fearday had a two-run double in the second while Hope Colliter knocked out a three-run homer. Armstrong sacrificed to score the sixth run.
The Trojans came back with a four-run second and pulled within 6-5 in the fifth. But the Hearts tallied a final run on an RBI single by Alissa Kersey.
