EHS, St. Anthony Win Big, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham High School pounded Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 21-0 in five innings Tuesday in softball competition.

The Hearts took a 4-0 first inning lead then had an eight-run second and a nine-run fourth. EHS had 12 hits in the game led by Hope Collier with a single, triple and three RBI, Madison Weis with two singles and four RBI, Aly Armstrong with two doubles and three RBI and Kaylee Tonn with two singles and three RBI.

Collier moved her pitching record to 1-1 on a no-hitter through two innings, two walks and four strikeouts. Tonn came on in the third and pitched a three-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts.

The Hearts are now 4-2 on the season and host St. Elmo/Brownstown Friday.

At Mulberry Grove

St. Anthony blanked Mulberry Grove 10-0 in five innings. The Bulldogs banged out 13 hits in the contest.

Jenna Woltman pitched a one-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts.

Katie Kabbes had two singles, a double and two RBI while Maddie Schuette had a single, double and two RBI and Marci Mills a single, home run and three RBI. Laura Gurtner chipped in with two singles and two RBI and Abbie Schmidt added a double.

At Mulberry Grove

Altamont took the early 2-0 lead and went on to beat South Central 5-2.

The Indians held a 3-2 lead after four then tacked on single runs in the fifth and seventh.

Mette led Altamont in hitting with a triple and an RBI. Abby King and Zoe Johnston led South Central with two singles each.

The Cougars drop to 2-4 on the season and 0-1 in the National Trail Conference.

Dieterich fell to Oblong 20-0 in five innings Tuesday.

Oblong took a 5-0 first inning lead then had two-run innings in the second and fourth and a single run in the fifth.

Robards led Dieterich with a double.

Vandalia edged St. Elmo/Brownstown 10-9 Tuesday.

Vandalia held a 4-3 lead after three innings. SEB went ahead 7-4 in the top of the fourth but Vandalia came right back in the bottom of the inning to move ahead 8-7. SEB again took the lead, this time in the top of the seventh with two runs but Vandalia tallied the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the frame.

SEB drops to 1-8 on the season. Brown had a double, home run and three RBI while Reynolds had two singles, a double and an RBI. Parksion had three singles.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg continues to roll along with a 6-3 win over Okaw Valley.

Okaw Valley held a 3-2 lead until the seventh inning when WSS rallied to tie the score, sending the game into extra innings. WSS then tallied three runs in the eighth for the win.

Roney pitched a six-hitter with three walks and 13 strikeouts. Tabbert had two doubles and drove in three runs while Quast had a double and two RBI.
