Lady Shoes Capture Vandalia Tournament; Other Saturday Scores

The Teutopolis Lady Shoes captured the championship of the Vandalia Tournament on Saturday, going 3-0.

The Lady Shoes defeated Vandalia 9-5, won over Gillespie in a pitchers duel 2-1, and used a nine-run fifth inning to beat Mt. Vernon 10-0.

In the Vandalia win, the Shoes used a five-run first inning to take the early lead and then added three runs in the third and a run in the fourth to win it.

Emma Beckman pitched the first three innings, allowing an earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out two. Will pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits and four walks while fanning two. Allie Niebrugge got the final two outs, one via strikeout.

In the Gillespie win, Gillespie got a run in the first, but Kadi Borries held them there. The Shoes scored twice in the fourth to post the win. The Gillespie run came via a home run. Borries allowed just three hits and a walk while fanning eight. Anni helped her own cause in a big way with a grand slam homer. Allison Apke added a two-run shot.

In the Mt. Vernon victory, Anni Borries pitched a three-hit shutout, walking one and fanning four.

The sweep at Vandalia followed a 7-0 Teutopolis win Friday over Massac County at SIU Carbondale. Anni Borries pitched six shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks while striking out three. Emma Beckman pitched the final inning, allowing a hit. Kadi Borries, Raegan Drees and Allison Apke each homered.

Teutopolis is now 10-1 on the spring.

South Central went 1-1 in the Mulberry Grove Tournament on Saturday. 

The Lady Cougars defeated Mulberry Grove 13-9, but lost to Breese Mater Dei 19-1.

Abby King got the win over Mulberry Grove, while Grzegorek took the loss to Mater Dei.

King homered in the first game.

South Central is now 2-2 on the spring.
