Shoes Suffer First Loss, Area Softball Roundup

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School ran into a tough Mount Zion squad and fell to the Braves 11-5 in softball competition Tuesday.
The Wooden Shoes stepped out to a 3-0 first inning lead then tacked on single runs in the second and third to lead 5-0. But Mount Zion started a comeback in the fourth with three runs then had a seven-run fifth inning.
The Braves had a total of 12 hits in the game led by Davis with a single, double and an RBI, Kennedy and Sarff with two singles and two RBI each.
T-town had nine hits led by Apke with two singles, Waldhoff with a triple and two RBI and Drees with a triple. The Shoes drop to 6-1 on the season and host Vandalia Thursday.

At Altamont
Cumberland stepped out to a 2-0 first inning lead but Altamont fought back and tied the score in the third. The Pirates then moved ahead with a run in the fifth and led 5-4 in the sixth.
Altamont rallied with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the 6-5 victory.
Biggs had two singles and an RBI while Mette added two singles and an RBI and Goeckner a single and double. The Indians improve to 2-5 on the season.

Odin took the early lead and never looked back in a 15-0 win over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick in five innings via the 10-run rule.
Odin had 12 hits in the contest led by Leek and Nalewajka with three singles each. Nalewajka had three RBI.
Dieterich was led by Timber Gates with two singles.
