Bulldogs Fall To Pirates, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony High School played host to Cumberland and fell to the Pirates 9-2 in girls softball action Monday.
The two teams were tied at 1-1 after two innings and 2-2 after three. Cumberland moved ahead with a run in the fifth and had a big six-run seventh inning.
K. Thornton led the Pirates with two singles, a home run and three RBI while J. McMechan added three singles and an RBI and M. Huddleston two singles and two RBI.
St. Anthony was led by Katie Kabbes with a double and Maddie Schuette with two singles and an RBI.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis pushed its unbeaten mark to 6-0 on the season with a 5-2 win over Olney.
The Wooden Shoes tallied two runs in the second and single runs over the next three innings.
Kadi Borries picked up the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out eight. Borries also aided her cause offensively with a solo home run. Drees chipped in with a single, double and an RBI while Brumleve added two singles and an RBI.
The Shoes will play host to Mount Zion today. T-town's junior varsity team beat Olney 9-1.

Altamont broke loose with four run innings in the fourth and sixth to pull out a 9-5 win over Sullivan.
Sullivan held a 3-0 lead until the third when Altamont scored a single run. The Indians then pushed ahead and stayed ahead.
Both teams had 10 hits in the contest. Altamont was led by Duckwitz with a single, double and an RBI, Goeckner with two singles and Mette with two singles. The Indians are now 1-5 on the season.
