EHS Throttles Vandalia, St. A Drops Contest to Olney, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham High School stepped out to a 7-0 first inning lead and went on to throttle Vandalia 17-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule in softball action Tuesday.

Aly Armstrong pitched a four-hitter with no walks and nine strikeouts for the win. Hope Collier came on in the fourth to pitch a four-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts.

Collier also aided the cause offensively with a school record 19th home run of her career. Carsyn Fearday had two singles, a triple and two RBI while Jenna Wright added a single, double and an RBI. Alissa Kersey had a triple and an RBI. Kaylee Tonn and Shelby Borries had a double each. Borries finished with three RBI and Tonn one RBI.

The game was the season-opener for the Hearts.

At Olney

Effingham St. Anthony trailed by just a run after the first inning but Olney came back with three in the second to push ahead 6-2. The Bulldogs pulled within 6-5 in the top of the fifth but once again the Tigers struck with four runs in the bottom of the frame for a 10-5 victory.

Jenna Woltman had a single, double and an RBI for the Bulldogs.

Odin took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and went on for an 11-0 win over South Central.

Odin had 11 hits in the contest and was aided by five Cougar errors. Alannah Sigrist had the lone hit for South Central with a triple. The Cougars drop to 1-1 on the season.

At Ramsey

The Wooden Shoes of Teutopolis took a 6-0 first inning lead, had an 11-run second and bounced Ramsey 24-1 in five innings via the 10-run rule.

T-town had a big offense with 15 hits while Anni Borries pitched two innings, allowing no hits, no walks and four strikeouts for the win. E. Beckman came on in the third and pitched a no-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Apke knocked out two home runs and finished with a whopping seven RBI for the Shoes. One homer was a grand slam. Repking had a single and two doubles while Drees had a single, double and an RBI.

T-town improves to 4-0 and is back in action today at Charleston. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday.

Pana took the early 4-0 lead on Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick and went on for a 6-1 victory.

BCCH had four hits in the contest, all singles by Isabella Doty, Taylor Oldham, Felicia Johnson and Jenna Wojcik.

Dieterich edged Neoga 1-0 in action on the Movin' Maroons home field.

The Maroon's Hanna Ruholl picked up the pitching win, going seven innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight. Bayley Neece was the tough-luck loser, throwing a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Kelsey Webb scored Dieterich's run on a single by Kallee Heuerman. Madison Bannick had two singles and a double. The Maroons are 2-2 on the season.

Neoga drops to 0-2. Neece had both hits, singles.

At Newton

Mattoon handed Newton an 11-1 loss in six innings Tuesday.

The Green Wave held a 2-0 lead in the third and led 6-1 in the fifth. Mattoon ended the game in the sixth with five runs.

The Eagles had six errors and five hits in the game. Frohning had a double and an RBI while Shipman had two singles and Ochs a double. Newton drops to 1-1 on the season.
