Effingham St. Anthony High School broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run fourth and went on for an 8-4 softball victory over Flora Monday.

The Bulldogs had nine hits in the contest led by Hunter Niebrugge with a double, home run and four RBI, Marci Mills a home run, Jenna Woltman with two singles, a double and an RBI, Katie Kabbes with a double and Maddie Schuette with two singles.

Woltman picked up the pitching win on a six-hitter with three walks and seven strikeouts.

At Flora

At Mulberry Grove

South Central trailed Mulberry Grove 4-1 after two innings then tied the game in the third and pushed ahead 8-6 in the fourth. The score was tied at 10-10 in the fifth. The Cougars then scored five runs in the sixth then held off Mulberry Grove in the final inning, 15-13.

Serina Lee banged out four singles and had an RBI while Abby King had four singles and two RBI, Lexie Reid three singles and four RBI and Shelby Schoenfelder three singles and an RBI.

"It was our first game of the year and I thought we played well," said South Central Coach Gary Kapper. "We hit the ball seeing live pitching for the first time. We made some fielding errors but today was the first time we have been on an infield. We were glad to get to play."

Teutopolis trounced Salem 14-2 in five innings via the 10-run rule Monday.

The Wooden Shoes had 17 hits in the contest led by Allison Apke who went five-for-five with three singles, a double, triple and seven RBI. Kadi Borries had a single, home run and an RBI while Danielle Repking had two singles and two RBI, Marianna Hemmen added three singles and Raegan Drees two singles, a double and two RBI.

The Shoes are now 3-0 on the season.

At Salem

Dieterich had a 12-run inning and tallied a 26-9 victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown.

SEB held a 7-3 lead after four innings but Dieterich tied the score in the top of the fifth then had a seven-run sixth and a 12-run seventh.

Allyssa Boerngen drove in seven runs while Jennifer Robards and Mickala Klay had three RBI each for the Maroons.

Newton banged out 14 hits and claimed a 17-5 win over Neoga in five innings Monday.

Neoga held a 3-0 lead after the first but the Eagles tallied five runs in the second and third innings then had a four-run fourth and a three-run fifth.

Maddie Stanley picked up the four-hit pitching win. M. Earnest had two singles, a double and two RBI while Frohning had a single, two triples and three RBI.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg trailed Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 3-1 until the fourth then tallied three runs to take the lead and put the game away with seven runs in the seventh for an 11-4 win.

WSS had 14 hits led by Cole with a double, triple and three RBI. Roney pushed her pitching record to 4-0 by going all seven, allowing 11 hits, seven walks and striking out six.
