TEUTOPOLIS -- Anni and Kadi Borries came up big in the bottom of the seventh inning to guide Teutopolis High School to a 4-3 win over Sullivan in the season opening softball contest Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes held a 1-0 lead in the third and led 3-2 in the sixth. In the top of the seventh, Sullivan knotted the score at 3-3. Then came the big fireworks in the bottom of the frame for the Shoes.

Anni Borries nailed a triple and was followed by Kadi Borries hitting a hard ground ball to third that scored Anni for the winning run.

Kadi Borries pitched a five-hitter while allowing only one walk and striking out 14. She aided her own cause with two singles, a double and an RBI. A. Borries finished with a single, triple and an RBI.

At Teutopolis

At Flora

St. Elmo/Brownstown scored two runs in the fourth inning but that's all as Flora claimed a 12-2 win in six innings via the 10-run rule Tuesday.

The Wolves edged out to a 1-0 first inning lead then had two-run innings over the next two and finished the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

"This, like last year, was our first game and our first time on a diamond," said SEB Coach Tom Fedrigon. "I was very pleased with the effort the girls played with this evening. We need to cut down on our errors, but pitcher Tessa Philpot did exactly what we wanted her to do, keep the ball down and get a lot of ground balls."

SEB had two hits, singles by Makenzie Parkison and Kyrstyn  Fitch.

At Flora

At Toledo

Cumberland opened the season showing its power as four players banged out hits all over the field.

Along with the offensive power, the Pirates' Liberty Dunaway pitched a two-hitter with three strikeouts. She also aided her own cause with a home run.

Kyla Thornton had a double, triple and two RBi while Katie Poe had two singles and drove in two runs and Sadie Oakley had two doubles.

At Shelbyville

Dieterich tallied a run in the first inning to take the early lead but Marshall came back with 14 runs over four innings and handed the Maroons a 14-1 loss in five innings via the 10-run rule.

Grooms pitched a one-hitter while the Lions banged out 14 hits. Maddie Bannick had Dieterich's only hit, a single that drove in Hannah Hunzinger.

At Windsor

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg tallied a 10-3 victory over Moweaqua Central A&M Tuesday.

WSS held a 1-0 lead in the first inning and tallied two more in the fifth. Central A&M broke into the scoring column in the sixth with two runs but Windsor/Stew-Stras came back with a sevene-run bottom of the frame.

Calla Roney picked up the pitching win on a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Roney also had three singles and three RBI. Schlechte had a single, double and an RBI while Rentfrow had a double and two RBI.
