Effingham Junior High School edged Shelbyville 1-0 in the opening game of the Class 2A Effingham Softball Regional Thursday.
The Mustangs, seeded fourth, scored the lone run of the contest in the first inning. Olivia Martin had a triple and Makayla Allie a double for the winners. Jaelyn Boone picked up the pitching win, going all seven innings, allowing four hits, three walks and striking out two.
Effingham now advances to face top-seeded Mount Zion Saturday at 10 a.m.
Teutopolis easily claimed the second contest by trouncing Sullivan 15-0 in three innings. T-town took a 3-0 first inning lead, tacked on five in the second and ended the game with a seven-run third.
T-town had 12 hits while Sullivan was held to two. T-town, seeded third, will now face second-seeded Mattoon at noon Saturday.

Class 2A Paris Crestwood Regional
Effingham St. Anthony, seeded fourth, saw its season come to an end with a 5-2 loss to fifth-seeded Oblong.
In the other contest, third-seeded Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg edged sixth-seeded Martinsville 7-6.
Oblong advances to face top-seeded Paris Crestwood at 10 a.m. Saturday while Windsor/Stew-Stras will face Findlay Okaw Valley, seeded second, at 11:30 a.m.
Class 1A Altamont Regional
St. Elmo/Brownstown advanced from first round play. SEB defeated Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 17-2.
In the other contest, no score was reported on the Nokomis vs. Ramsey game.
St. Elmo/Brownstown advances to a meeting against second-seeded Altamont at 11 a.m. Saturday. In the opening game, top seeded Mulberry Grove will face either Nokomis or Ramsey at 9 a.m.
Class 2A Jasper County Regional
Jasper County, Cumberland and Paris Mayo advanced from opening round play Thursday.
Jasper County defeated Lawrenceville Parkview 11-1 while Paris Mayo blanked Red Hill (Bridgeport) 6-0. Jasper County will take on Paris Mayo at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Cumberland downed Casey-Westfield 8-0 and will now face Charleston at noon Saturday.
At St. Peter
South Central brought home 17 runs in downing Iuka 17-1. South Central took an 11-0 first inning lead and never looked back, ending the game in the fourth.
Laney Webster had three singles and two RBI for the winners while Sydnee Garrett had a triple, an inside-the-park home run and four RBI, Angelica Rivera two singles and two RBI, Katie Shumate two singles, a double and two RBI and Kayli Swift a double and an RBI.
South Central is now 10-1 on the season.
