BEECHER CITY -- Effingham Junior High School traveled to Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick for a softball contest and came away a 16-2 win in six innings Monday.
The Mustangs took a 3-0 first inning lead then had an eight-run third. McKenzie Wittenberg had three of Effingham's 16 hits with two singles, a double and three RBI. Jaidi Davis had a single and double while Morgan Krouse had a double. Taylor O'Dell added two singles and two RBI.
Wheeler had the lone hit for BCCH with a single.
Wittenberg not only got the big hits but also picked up the pitching win on a one-hitter with four walks and 12 strikeouts.
