Effingham Wins Regional Title

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Effingham Junior High School claimed the championship of the Class AA Lawrenceville Parkview Softball Regional Monday.

The Mustangs edged out to a 1-0 lead over Teutopolis in the second inning then tacked on a second run in the third. The Mustangs scored two more in the fourth. T-town tallied its lone run in the sixth.

Aly Armstrong picked up the pitching win, allowing two walks while striking out six. Effingham banged out 11 hits in the contest led by Jenna Wright with a double, Katelyn Lybarger and Bria Barr with two singles each. Lybarger added an RBI. Brianne Boggs had a single and two RBI.

"Aly pitched great and everyone hit the ball," said Coach Lindsay Francis. "We're so proud of them."

Effingham advances to Mattoon Sectional play Saturday where the Mustangs will take on Mattoon, a 2-1 winner over Charleston, at 1 p.m.
