Hearts Advance In Mattoon Softball Regional

MATTOON -- Effingham High School trounced Decatur Eisenhower 15-0 to advance to action today in the Class 3A Mattoon Softball Regional Monday.
The Hearts stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead then tallied three in the second, four in the third and ended the game with four in the fourth.
Aly Armstrong pitched a two-hitter with two walks and 10 strikeouts. Madison Weis had a double and solo home run. Hope Collier had three doubles and five RBI. Jenna Wright had a single, home run and two RBI and Brittany Beals added a double.
The Hearts are now 18-12 and will face second-seeded Mattoon today, weather-permitting, at 7 p.m. In the opening game today, top-seeded Mount Zion will meet Charleston at 4:30 p.m. The winners advance to the championship game Saturday at noon.
