Hearts Win City Series w/Doubleheader Sweep of Bulldogs

Effingham posted a doubleheader sweep in high school softball over the St. Anthony Buildogs Thursday evening. That clinches the best-of-three City Softball Series for the Hearts.
Effingham won the opener 10-0 in six innings, and then captured the nightcap 9-1.
In the opener, the Hearts banged out 14 hits with all nine players garnering at least one hit. Morgan Wilson had a single, double and an RBI while Hope Collier had a single, double, home run and three RBI.
Jenna Wohltman had two singles for the Bulldogs.
Aly Armstrong picked up the three-hit pitching win, allowing one walk and striking out nine.
In the second game, the Hearts edged out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning and held that until tacking on another run in the fourth. The Bulldogs pulled within 2-1 in the fifth but the Hearts scored another run in the bottom of the frame then put the contest away with a six-run sixth.
The Hearts again had the big bats with 11 hits. Wilson had a single, double, triple and four RBI. Kaylee Tonn added three singles.
Paige Koester, Woltman and Maci Mills had a single each for the Bulldogs.
