EHS Second At Robinson Softball Invite, T-town Gets Two Wins, A Loss

ROBINSON -- Effingham High School played for the championship of the Robinson Softball Invitational and ended up in second place Saturday.
The Hearts trounced Red Hill (Bridgeport) 17-7 behind a 15-hit attack. EHS trailed 4-1 until the fourth and then trailed 5-3 going into the fifth. The Hearts broke loose with eight runs and scored six more in the sixth.
Morgan Wilson had a single, two triples and five RBI while Madison Weis had a single, two doubles, a home run and three RBI. Jenna Wright chipped in with two singles and a double while Aly Armstrong had a single, double and two RBI.
In the second game, Effingham edged Fairfield 5-4. The score was tied at 1-1 after two innings. The Hearts then scored single runs in the third and fourth and two in the fifth. Fairfield made a comeback bid with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh only to fall short.
Weis had a single, double and one RBI while Hope Collier had a single, home run and three RBI. Armstrong chipped in with a double and an RBI.
In the championship game, Wayne City took a 2-1 lead in the third then tacked on two more in the seventh for a 4-1 win.
Wayne City had 10 hits in the contest and held the Hearts to three hits. EHS is now 10-7 on the season and will host Neoga Tuesday.
South Central competed in the tournament and fell in the opening two games before picking up a win over Red Hill 5-1.
In the opener, Robinson blanked the Cougars 10-0. Jordan Schaal led South Central in hitting with two singles.
In the second contest, Neoga was an 11-1 winner behind a 14-hit attack. The Indians broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth with four runs then had a five-run sixth.
Bailey Ritter led South Central with two singles.
In the final contest, South Central trailed Red Hill 1-0 until the third then tallied three runs and scored two more in the fifth for the 5-1 win.
South Central had 11 hits led by Serina Lee who went four-for-four with four singles. Sidney Wilkins had a single, double and drove in three runs.
South Central is now 7-11 on the season.

At Decatur
Teutopolis competed in the Decatur Showcase and picked up two wins while suffering its first loss Saturday.
The Wooden Shoes edged Tolono Unity 2-1. Both teams scored a single run in the first inning then went five straight innings without a score before T-town tallied the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
T-town had nine hits in the contest led by Madison Cowman with a single and triple and Kadi Borries with two singles and an RBI. K. Borries picked up the pitching win on a four-hitter with one walk and four strikeouts.
In the second contest, Williamsville bounced the Shoes 15-3 in five innings. Williamsville had 12 hits in the contest.
T-town had five hits led by Cowman and Allison Apke with a double each. Apke added an RBI and Raegan Drees had a solo home run.
In the final contest, T-town reversed the tables with a 13-6 win over Metamora. T-town scored three runs in the first and three in the second then had a seven-run sixth.
R. Drees had a single and double while K. Borries had two singles and two RBI. Beckman added a single, triple and two RBI. The Wooden Shoes are now 17-1 on the season.
