Shoes Down Bulldogs in Cross Creek Classic; Other Friday May 1 Games

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes improved to 15-0 on the softball season with a 10-0 six-inning win over the St. Anthony Bulldogs. In the process, Teutopolis retained the Cross Creek Classic trophy. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com.  

Neither team scored until Teutopolis struck for two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Danielle Repking reached on an error to lead off the inning and then Julie Wente walked. A combination of passed balls and wild pitches scored Repking and then Amanda Waldhoff singled home Wente to make a 2-0 game.

The Shoes scored four times in the third inning. Anni Borries reached on a hard hit infield single, and then Kadi Borries homered over the right centerfield fence to make it 4-0. With one out, Repking reached on an infield single and then Wente doubled her to third. Patricia Campbell then singled to bring home Repking and Wente to extend the lead to 6-0.

T-Town added two more runs in the fourth. With one out, Anni Borries singled and then Kadi Borries walked. A combination of wild pitches brought both runners home to make it 8-0.

The Shoes ended the game in the sixth. With one out, Anni Borries singled for her third hit of the game. After an out, Allison Apke hit a laser over the left field fence for a walkoff home run and the win via the 10-run rule.

Teutopolis used three pitches in advance of a full day of softball Saturday in Decatur. Madison Cowman pitched three innings and got all nine of her outs on strikeouts. She allowed two hits. Kadi Borries pitched two innings and gave up two hits and a walk while fanning two. Anni Borries pitched a perfect final inning.

For St. Anthony, Jenna Woltman went the distance, allowing 10 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits while walking three and striking out four.

St. Anthony is even on the season at 12-12.

EFFINGHAM 12, RAMSEY 0

Aly Armstrong pitched a two-hit shutout, walking three and striking out eight, to lead Effingham to the win. The Lady Hearts their 12 runs on just eight hits, all singles. Jenna Wright and Brittany Beals had two hits each, and Ashlyn Hanks, Madison Weis, Morgan Kinkelaar and Reanna Thies each had a hit. Beals and Kinkelaar each drove in two runs, while other RBI were delivered by Hope Collier and Kaylee Bridges.

Effingham improved to 8-6 on the season.

STEWARDSON-STRASBURG/WINDSOR 15, BEECHER CITY/COWDEN-HERRICK 0 (Kendall Knop got the win, pitching a one-hit shutout and fanning 11. Knop also had three hits including a triple and drove in three runs; also for SS/W: Tabor had three hits and scored twice; Everett doubled and singled and drove in two runs; and Greuel doubled and singled and scored twice. Timber Gates had the lone hit for BCCH; Stew-Stras/Windsor improved to 9-11 on the season)

NEOGA 11, ARCOLA 1 (Neece got the win; at the plate for Neoga: C. Blazich tripled, doubled and singled and drove in a run; Neece singled and drove in a run; Roderick tripled, doubled and singled and drove in three runs; Effner doubled and singled and drove in two runs; Padgett drove in a run; Miah singled and drove in a run; J. Blazich doubled and singled and drove in a run; and Lee and Taylor each had a hit)
