Hearts Capture Apollo Softball Doubleheader, Area Roundup

Effingham High School played host to Charleston in Apollo Conference softball doubleheader action Saturday and picked up two victories.
The Hearts won the opener 6-2. Charleston took a 2-0 lead in the third and EHS tied in the fourth then scored four runs in the fifth.
Aly Armstrong picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts. Hope Collier led the Hearts with two doubles and an RBI while Jenna Wright had a single, double and an RBI. Kaylee Tonn and Brittany Beals had a double each.
In the second game, Effingham trailed Charleston 2-1 after the first inning but tallied six runs in the second and seven in the fourth to end the game 15-3 in the fifth.
Collier was the winning pitcher on an eight-hitter with no walks and five strikeouts. Morgan Wilson had two triples and three RBI while Hope Collier had a single double, home run and five RBI. Tonn added a double and an RBI and Morgan Kinkelaar a double.
The Hearts are now 5-0 on the season.

At Mulberry Grove
South Central competed in the Mulberry Grove Invitational and picked up a victory and suffered a loss.
In the opener, Mulberry Grove was an 11-1 winner, ending the game in the sixth. The Cougars lone run came in the fourth.
South Central had four hits led by Sidney Wilkins with a solo home run and Abby King with a double
In the second contest, South Central was a 13-6 winner. The Cougars trailed 5-0 until the fourth then scored 10 runs.
The Cougars had 14 hits in the game led by King with a home run and three RBI, Sidney Wilkins with three singles and two RBI, Alannah Sigrist, Bailey Ritter and Kanady Grzegorek with two singles each. Ritter and Grzegorek added an RBI each.
South Central is 1-4.

Dieterich handed Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick an 8-6 loss Saturday.
The score was tied at 2-2 after two innings and BCCH took a 5-3 lead in the third. Dieterich then tallied four runs in the fourth. BCCH pulled within 7-6 in the sixth but Dieterich tacked on a final run in the seventh.
Vahling was the winning pitcher, going 4.2 innings, allowing two hits, two walks and striking out one. Vahling also aided her own cause with a double, home run and three RBI. Dial added two singles and an RBI.
Oldham had single and drove in three runs for BCCH.

Sullivan picked up an 11-7 win over Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor in action Saturday.
Sullivan stepped out to a 7-1 lead in the second inning before SS/Windsor came back within 8-7 in the sixth. Sullivan then tacked on three runs in the seventh.
Stew-Stras/Windsor was led by Knop, Tabor and Quast with two singles each.
