CENTRALIA -- Effingham Junior High School edged Centralia 12-11 in girls softball action Thursday evening.

Effingham broke a 3-3 tie with a four-run second then had to hold off a final inning challenge to pull out the victory. Miranda Fox had a single, triple and drove in three runs for the Mustangs. Lauren Douthit had two singles, a double and two RBI. Kiyah Kuhlman had two singles, a triple and an RBI. Emma Huss had a single, double and an RBI.

"Earlier this week I said it was hard to win a game with 15 walks, well somehow we did just that last night," said Effingham Coach Megan Whitacre. "We faced a very good pitcher from Centralia and we were able to generate a lot of hits and RBI. When Centralia did hit, our defense was solid. Our pitchers need to continue to work hard and good things will come."
