Wessel's Captures Doubleheader

Wessel's Coors Light picked up a men's fastpitch softball doubleheader victory Tuesday evening at the  T-town K of C Diamond.

Wessel's won the opener over Shelbyville Liberty 3-2 and came back for the sweep with a 15-4 victory. In the opener, Shelbyville Liberty held a 1-0 lead and pushed that to 2-0 in the top of the sixth. Wessel's then broke loose in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs to pull out the win. Both teams had four hits. Tim Schumacher had a double and drove in all three runs. Gary Niebrugge pitched the win, allowing no walks and striking out 10.

In the second contest, Wessel's again trailed Shelbyville Liberty, this time 1-0 until the top of the third. Wessel's then tallied three runs, upped that lead to 6-0 in the fourth and then brought home nine runs in the sixth. Wessel's had 10 hits led by Brent Bohnhoff with a double, triple and two RBI, Jaden Widdersheim with a double, three-run home and four RBI, Marcus Millsap with two singles and three RBI and John Niebrugge with a two-run roundtripper. Paul Mersman was the winning pitcher with one walk, seven hits and three strikeouts.
