Bulldogs Fall To S'ville, SEB, Newton Nab Softball Wins

Effingham St. Anthony hosted Shelbyville and the Rams came back from a one-run deficit in a big way with 13 runs in the fifth to end the softball game due to the 10-run rule Tuesday, 14-2.
The Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Shelbyville tied in the top of the third but the Bulldogs moved ahead with a run in the bottom of the frame. However, things went South for the Bulldogs in the fifth when the Rams broke loose and couldn't be halted.
Shelbyville's Madison Boone picked up the pitching win on a three-hitter with four strikeouts. She also hit a home run. The Rams had 10 hits in the contest led by Boone with a single, home run and four RBI, Fox with a single, double and three RBI and Smith with a single, double and two RBI.
St. Anthony had three hits, singles by Paige Koester, Makayla Walsh and Morgan Gardewine.

At St. Elmo
St. Elmo/Brownstown handed Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor an 8-3 loss Tuesday.
The two squads were tied at 1-1 in the first before SEB moved ahead with a run in the second and three in the third. Brownstown had a double, triple and an RBI for the winners while D. Austin had two singles and three RBI.
The Eagles improve to 14-14 on the season and 5-2 in the National Trail Conference.
Stew-Stras/Windsor was led by Burton with a single, double and an RBI and Schultz with two singles. Stew-Stras/Windsor drops to 18-6 on the season.

Newton tallied four runs in the second but Olney came back to tie the score in the top of the sixth. The Eagles scored the winning run in the bottom of the inning for a 5-4 win.
McCoy pitched the win, striking out four. Hardiek had two singles for the Eagles.
