EHS, St. A, T-town, Altamont Among Area Softball Winners

Effingham took a 4-2 first inning lead then scored six runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to trounce Neoga 22-2 in softball competition Tuesday.
The Hearts banged out 25 hits in the contest including five home runs. Madison Weis had two singles, two home runs and five RBI while Hope Collier had two singles, two home runs and six RBI and Morgan Wilson two singles, a double, home run and two RBI. Jenna Wright added four singles and Brittany Beals two singles, a double and two RBI and Shelby Nunamaker a single, two triples and two RBI.
Potter led Neoga with a double.
EHS is now 9-10 on the season.

Effingham St. Anthony took a 2-0 first inning lead and went on to beat St. Elmo/Brownstown 15-4.
Kate Richards had two singles for the Bulldogs while Hunter Niebrugge had three singles and four RBI, Jenna Woltman a single, double and an RBI, Makayla Walsh and a single, triple and an RBI. Paige Koester had two singles and three RBI and Megan Nuxoll a triple. Morgan Gardewine added two singles and three RBI.
Woltman picked up the pitching win going four innings, allowing no walks and two strikeouts.
St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Moss with a single and double and Austin with two singles and an RBI. The Eagles drop to 11-11 on the season.

At Teutopolis
The Wooden Shoes put together four singles in the fifth inning to score three runs and that's all it took in a 3-1 win over Mattoon.
Kadi Borries then worked with the three runs to pick up the pitching win on a 10-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
The Green Wave led 1-0 after the third inning before the three-run fifth. Mattoon drops to 15-5 on the season.
T-town's K. Borries and Allison Apke had two singles and an RBI each. The Shoes, No. 2 in the Illinois Coaches Association's Class 2A state rankings, improved to 20-0 on the season.
T-town also won the junior varsity contest 2-1.

Altamont had two five-run innings and handed Mulberry Grove a 12-5 loss.
Biggs was the winning pitcher on a six-hitter with a walk and three strikeouts. L. Ohnesorge had a home run and two RBI for the winners while M. Ohnesorge had four singles. White had two singles, a double and two RBI.
The Indians improve to 20-4 on the season.

Noble came calling and claimed a 9-4 win over Dieterich in action Tuesday.
The Movin' Maroons took a 2-0 first inning lead but Noble came back with a run in the third, three in the fourth and five in the fifth.
Noble was led by Hawkins with three singles and two RBI and Hase with two singles, a double and two RBI. Dieterich was led by Vahling with a single, triple and an RBI, Thoele two singles and Higgs two singles.
