EHS Drops Doubleheader, SS/W Beats St. A, Area Roundup

Effingham Higih School hosted Mount Zion in Apollo Conference softball competition and the Braves headed home with a doubleheader sweep Thursday.
In the opener, the Braves blanked the Hearts 8-0 behind a 14-hit attack. Mount Zion stepped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and never looked back. Morgan Mansur pitched the six-hit victory allowing only one walk while striking out 11.
Mansur also had two singles and a double for the winners while Fallon Conner had two singles, Karra Elwick two singles and a double and Jade Frey three singles.
EHS was led by Brittany Beals with two singles and Jenna Wright with a single and double.
The Braves then took the second contest 11-1 behind 11 hits and six EHS errors. Alli Davis had two singles, a double and an RBI while Elwcik had a single, triple and three RBI. Conner was the winning pitcher on a two-hitter with four walks and a strikeout.
EHS had only two hits, singles by Madison Weis and Kaylee Tonn.

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor had an eight-run fifth and went on to down Effingham St. Anthony 13-11.
The Bulldogs held a 6-2 lead after three innings and led 8-4 after four. St. Anthony came back within 12-11 in the sixth but fell short.
Stew-Stras/Windsor was led by B. Schlechte with two singles and a double, M. Austin with two singles and three RBI, L. Burton with two singles and an RBI and K. Knop with two singles.

Diebre Ledbetter pitched a one-hitter with no walks and 14 strikeouts. Ledbetter had a single, triple and three RBI. Josie Phillips had two singles, a double and an RBI while Lauren Ohnesorge and Lauren White had a double and an RBI each.
South Central was led by Sigrist with a double.

Teutopolis bounced Neoga to the tune of 17-3 in six innings behind 20 hits Thursday.
T-town took a 4-2 first ining lead then scored in every inning but the third. Allison Apke hit two doubles, a triple and three RBI while Julie Wente had a single, home run and two RBI. MacKenzie Wermert had a single, double and an RBI and Madison Cowman two doubles. Anni Borries hit two home runs and drove in two runs while Charlotte Wente had a single, two doubles and three RBI. Kadi Borries finished with three singles and two RBI.
Neoga was led by Blazich with a home run and Potter with a single, double and an RBI.

St. Elmo/Brownstown edged Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 12-11. Both teams had 14 hits in the contest but BCCH tallied 10 errors.
BCCH took a 6-1 first inning lead before SEB came back with five runs to tie in the second and four to take the lead in the third. SEB held an 11-10 lead in the fifth and pushed that to 12-10 in the sixth. BCCH came back with a run in the bottom of the seventh only to fall short.
SEB was led by Oberlink with four singles and two RBI, Fitch a single, a double, and four RBI, Moss with two singles, Brown with two singles and an RBI, T. Austin with a single and double and Scholes with a double and an RBI.
SEB is now 4-0 in the National Trail Conference, 3-0 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference and 10-9 overall.
BCCH was led by Felicia Johnson with a single, double and four RBI, Billie Kolman with two singles, a double and an RBI and Bella Doty and Sarah Kirchhofer with two singles and an RBI.
