EHS Drops Twinbill to Mattoon, SEB Takes Second at Tourney

Effingham High School fell to Mattoon in an Apollo Conference softball doubleheader Saturday.

Mattoon won the opener 2-0, scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. The Green Wave had six hits in the contest. Kaitlyn Bath had two doubles and Hannah Pruden a double for the winners. EHS was led by Morgan Wilson with a double.

In the second contest, Mattoon claimed a 9-4 victory behind 13 hits and three EHS errors. Kasey Considine had a single and double while Avery Jackson had three singles.

EHS was led by Wilson with two singles. The Hearts drop to 3-6 on the season.

At Noikomis

St. Elmo/Brownstown captured second place in the Nokomis Softball Tournament Saturday.

In the opener, SEB edged Vandalia 3-2. Scholes picked up the pitching win on a five-hitter. Fitch led the winners with two singles and an RBI.

That put SEB into the title contest against Pana. The Panthers captured a one-run victory in eight innings, 7-6.

SEB outhit Pana 11-6 but committed a whopping 10 errors. Brown had a single and double while Pruett had two singles and two RBI and Scholes two singles and an RBI.

SEB is now 9-8 on the season.
