Cumberland Bounces St. A, Area Softball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Cumberland and the Pirates weren't very nice, scoring 24 runs and taking a 24-5 softball victory Monday evening.
St. Anthony held a 2-0 lead until the third when the Pirates tallied three runs. The Bulldogs came back to regain the lead with two in the bottom of the third. But Cumberland broke loose with an eight run fourth and had a 12-run sixth to end the contest.
Cumberland had 21 hits in the game. Casey had two singles, a double and two RBI while Carlen had two singles, a home run and two RBI. McMechan had two singles, a home run and three RBI. Poe contributed four singles and five RBI and Booker had three singles and three RBI.
Makayla Walsh had two home runs and two RBI for the Bulldogs while Jenna Woltman had a home run and an RBI.

At Sullivan
Altamont edged Sullivan 1-0 in a pitching duel Monday evening. Deidre Ledbetter picked up the win going all seven innings, allowing one hit, one walk and striking out 14.
Clements suffered the tough-luck loss going all seven innings, allowing four hits, three walks and striking out four.
Alex Teasley had two singles for the winners. Stewart had the lone hit for the Redskins with a single.

Shelbyville stepped out to a 4-0 first inning lead and went on for a 14-0 win in five innings via the 10-run rule over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick.

Teutopolis took the early lead then had to break a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth to pull out a 6-3 win over Olney.
The Wooden Shoes had 10 hits in the contest led by Kadi Borries with three doubles and two RBI, Anni Borries with a single, triple and an RBI and Allison Apke with a single and double.
T-town remains unbeaten at 6-0 on the season.
T-town's junior varsity squad also won 13-1 to improve to 2-2.

Kendall Knop pitched a two-hitter with three strikeouts to improve to 3-1 on the season. Knop also aided her own cause with a single and double. Ferris had a single, double and an RBI and Madison Quast a double and an RBI.
