The score looked more like a football game than a softball score as Effingham St. Anthony High School downed Flora 32-28 in action Monday evening.

The first inning opened with the Wolves taking a 6-3 lead and pushing that to 13-4 after two innings. Then it was St. Anthony's turn as the Bulldogs tallied eight runs in the third. Flora held a 19-13 lead going into the fifth. St. Anthony came back with five in the fifth, four in the sixth and 10 runs in the top of the seventh to pull out the four run victory.

The two teams had 56 hits in the contest and had six errors each. St. Anthony had 30 hits led by Piage Koester with seven singles and two RBI, Makayla Walsh with a single, two doubles and 10 RBI, Jenna Woltman with three singles, a double and four RBI and Hunter Niebrugge with two singles, a home run and six RBI.

The big score moves St. Anthony and Flora into fourth place in the Illinois High School Association record books for most runs scored in a game by both teams. The most runs scored by two teams was 73 by Sparland 37 and Roanoke Benson 36 in 1989. Second place is 63 by Chicago Phillips 37 and Chicago Tilden 26 in 1987 and third is 62 by Chicago Phillips 33 and Chicago Kenwood 29 in 1987.

The Bulldogs also moved into a tie for seventh place in most hits in a game with 30. They are tied with Oswego (1987) and Casey-Westfield (1992).

The Bulldogs improve to 3-1 on the season and return to action Wednesday at Olney.
