In a tightly contested soccer game, a goal with only 6:17 remaining in the match was the difference Saturday at the Class 2A Effingham Soccer Regional.

Charleston sophomore Reece Bell scored on a kick from just past the midline to give Charleston a 1-0 win over Mattoon. Elliott Griffin earned the assist on the goal.

All this came after Charleston's scoring leader, Taylor Garrett, was sidelined for the match with a first half injury.

The Trojans improve to 12-8 on the season which will be the last for Coach Paul Stranz who plans to retire at the end of the school year. Mattoon ended the year with a 12-9-2 record.

Charleston advances to the Troy Triad Sectional Tuesday against host Triad at 4:30 p.m.
