Effingham Wins Over Salem Friday

The Effingham Soccer Hearts took a lead, saw it evaporate and then came back to post a win 5-2 over Salem Friday at EHS Field.
Effingham started the scoring courtesy of Andrew Knight with an assist from Tyler Katz with 35:00 left in the first half. Phil Knight then scored on an assist by Jason Pike with 9:26 left in the first half to push the lead to 2-0.
Salem's Ford Barnfield, though, scored back-to-back goals to tie the game 2-2 early in the second half.
Effingham regrouped, with Sean Zerrusen scoring on an assist from Andrew Knight with 24:28 left in the second half, Michael Carie scoring on an assist from Jason Pike with 17:14 remaining, and Zerrusen scoring again on an assist from Carie with 8:32 remaining.
Effingham goalkeeper Frank Kasdorf had a save. Effingham had 22 shots, 17 on goal.
The victory improves the Hearts' record to 7-4-1 on the fall with more action Monday at Lebanon.
