Olney Edges EHS in Varsity Soccer, Play to 2-2 Tie in JV

Olney took the early lead then held off Effingham for a 4-3 varsity soccer victory Tuesday evening at EHS Soccer Field.

Olney's Chance Madden scored with 38:02 left in the first half. The Hearts came back to tie the score when Austin Wenthe connected on an unassisted goal at the 31:31 mark.

But here came the Tigers, scoring two goals as Luke Hahn hit the net at 19:10 and Lincoln Keller scored at 13:25 for a 3-1 lead. The Hearts pulled within 3-2 when Wenthe connected for his second goal, this one on an assist from Tyler Katz with 8:37 in the first half.

EHS knotted the score at 3-3 off a corner kick and scramble with 8:56 left in the second half. But Olney came back as Alec St. Pierre scored with only 45.7 seconds left for the victory.

Effingham drops to 4-4-1 on the season and won't be back in action until Monday at Teutopolis.

In a junior varsity match, Effingham and Olney played to a 2-2 tie. Effingham goals were by Sean Zerrusen with an assist from Luis Ramos and Ramos scored the other goal. Jared Minor had nine saves. EHS is now 2-2-2 on the season.
