Teutopolis Wins Soccer Regional Championship, EHS Opens Play Today

ALTAMONT -- Teutopolis High School captured the championship of the Class 1A Altamont Soccer Regional Tuesday.

The Wooden Shoes defeated Staunton 4-2 for the title.

Landyn Buening scored a goal then hit the net again on a goal assisted by Joey Probst.

Isaac McWhorter and Gavin Buening scored a goal each.

Coach Aaron Wendt's squad is now 15-3-2 on the season and advances to the North Mac Virden Sectional Saturday to meet Williamsville, an 8-1 winner over Springfield Lutheran at the Riverton Regional, at 10 a.m.

Greenville won the Hillsboro Regional with a 5-1 victory over the host squad. Greenville advances to the second match at noon Saturday at the Virden North Mac Sectional against either Pleasant Plains or Raymond Lincolnwood. Those two teams play today for the championship at the Carlinville Regional.

 

At Olney

Effingham High School will open regional play in soccer competition today.

The Hearts will be competing at the Class 2A Richland County, Olney Regional against Mascoutah at 4 p.m.

In Tuesday action at the regional, Troy Triad edged Salem 1-0.

Troy Triad advances to the championship match Saturday against the winner of the Effingham vs. Mascoutah contest at 10 a.m.
