St. Anthony Blanks Vandalia, EHS Beats Charleston In Soccer

VANDALIA -- Harrison Miller got Effingham St. Anthony High School off in the right direction and Noah Jensen completed a hat trick as the pair guided the Bulldogs to a 6-0 victory over Vandalia in soccer competition Thursday.

Miller, a senior, opened up the scoring in the first half for the Bulldogs with a goal. Michael Wright scored the second goal followed by Jensen, a junior, with his first goal of the game and the Bulldogs held a 3-0 lead at the half.

Miller then got the Bulldogs on the scoring binge again in the second half with his second goal. Jensen then followed with two goals for the hat trick.

"Sean Silva had created great opportunities to score," said St. Anthony Coach Martin Reyes. "Mason Jones played well at defense together with Issac Fallert, Evan Meyer, Ike Daiber and Ronnan Bailey."

 

At Effingham

Effingham blanked Charleston by a 6-0 count Thursday.

"We returned to our winning ways tonight," said EHS Coach Logan Arney. "Great team performance. Senior Sam Spicer turned in two assists from corner kicks, while Kendrick Nantes scored his first goal of the season from a shot 40-plus yards out.

"Goals were spread throughout the team with five different goal scorers. Peter Rosen got another clean sheet with four saves on the game."

Sebastian Simoni scored two goals for the Hearts. Camilo Aden tallied one goal and had one assist, Andrew Wagoner, Maicol Sefton and Kendrick Nantes had one goal each. Sam Spicer finished with two assists. Peter Rosen had four saves.

The junior varsity Hearts ended with a 3-1 win. Goals were scored by Rece Kinney, Jose Ochoa and Bryson Marler. Assists were by Ochoa and Rodolfo Garcia. Brady Wilson had two saves.

The Hearts are now 16-2 on the season and back in action Saturday playing host to Taylorville at 11 a.m.
