EHS Breaks School Soccer Record, T-town Wins, Senior Night For Shoes Today

OLNEY -- Effingham High School made school history in soccer competition Monday.

The Hearts broke the all-time EHS wins record by picking up a victory over Richland County, Olney.

EHS blanked Richland County by a 2-0 count. Goals were scored by Maicol Sefton and Sam Spicer. Sefton had one assist. Peter Rosen finished with four saves.

The Hearts are now 15-1 on the season.

"I'm proud of the team in breaking a longstanding record with four games left in the season," said EHS Coach Logan Arney. "We've run into some tough injuries and had several of our normal starters out but the team raliled and pulled off this historic win. Our defense held them to another clean sheet which is our ninth for the year.

"We look ahead to our away match against Apollo Conference leaders, Mahomet-Seymour this Wednesday. The junior varsity will play at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity."

 

At Greenville

Teutopolis handed Greenville a 3-1 loss in action Monday.

Cooper Tegeler scored two goals for the Shoes while Gavin Buening scored a goal, assisted by Tegeler.

"We played a good match," said T-town Coach Aaron Wendt. "We are now 12-2-2 on the season."

T-town also claimed the junior varsity match 1-0. Tommy Habnig scored the lone goal of the match.  The Shoes are now 6-4-2 on the season.

"Both squads are back in action for our last home match of the year," said Coach Wendt. "It will be Senior Night Tuesday against Richland County, Olney." 

The junior varsity match will begin at 4:30 p.m. Introduction of the seniors on the varsity squad will begin at 5:30 p.m .and the varsity match will start at 6 p.m.
