Shoes Edge Bulldogs, Hearts Pound Trojans In Soccer Action

Teutopolis High School edged Effngham St. Anthony 2-1 in soccer competition Thursday.

In the first minute of the match, T-town's Joey Probst scored off a corner kick from Gavin Buening. St. Anthony came back as Harrison Miller shot the ball into the goal after a pass from Elijah Proston to knot the score.

Then in the last minute of the match, Simon Lee scored the winning goal for the Wooden Shoes.

"Our team played well," said St. Anthony Coach Martin Reyes. "Evan Meyer, Ronnon Bailey, Ike Daiber, Issac Fallert, and Noah Jensen were key defensive players and our goal keeper. Calvin Sudkamp had great saves with 90 seconds left, T-town scored their second goal after a rebounded save. We are very proud of our players and their hard work, especially Maddox Wiedman, Elijah Proston, Michael Wright and Will Fearday."

The  Wooden Shoes are now 9-1 on the season and will return to action Saturday at Carlyle with an 11 a.m. varsity start and the junior varsity to follow.

 

At Effingham

Effingham continues to roll along as the Hearts blanked Charleston 6-0 Thursday to improve to 9-0 on the season.

"We started off slow but things started to click and we ended up on top," said EHS Coach Logan Arney. "Andrew Wagoner ended the game with a hat trick, including a beautiful goal from distance into the top corner. Peter Rosen and the defense ended with our fifth clean sheet on the season"

Wagoner tallied three goals while Maicol Sefton, Jake Niebrugge and Connor Delong scored a goal each. Sam Spicer and Rece Kinney added an assist each.

The junior varsity team also got a win by a 7-0 count. Rece Kinney had two goals, one assist and one save, Brady Wilson three saves and one goal, Rodolfo Garcia one assist and Scott Robinson, Bryson Marler, Luis Sarmiento and Danny Angel one goal each.
